Drought support and advice at LLS info afternoon in Coonamble
Landholders in the Coonamble district have an opportunity to hear what drought support is available at a Central West Local Land Services (LLS) workshop on 14 February.
The forum is after the cattle sales. A range of speakers will be talking about drought issues and support:
* livestock health and nutrition
* financial assistance in drought times
* biosecurity and emergency response matters
* support and help for landholders from the Salvation Army
* mental health and wellbeing, including blood pressure and health checks.
Times are getting hard on the land and the workshop will be useful to many people, according to Central West LLS District Vet, Jill Kelly.
"Coonamble landholders and businesses are suffering due to extremely dry conditions and ongoing high temperatures.
"It is an extremely stressful time for many farming families. This information afternoon will be relevant to many.
"It's also an opportunity for farmers and their families to spend a day in town and catch up away from the farm."
Attendees can also meet Central West LLS General Manager Laurie Dwyer and learn what the new organisation will deliver.
"Conditions are really tough in many areas, particularly Coonamble," said Laurie.
"Similar afternoons will be held across the central west over the next few months to inform, engage and create discussion.
"We are looking forward to working with landholders and businesses across the region to deliver the best services for their area."
Rural Adversity Mental Health Consultant, Dianne Gill will be speaking on health and mental wellbeing at the information afternoon.
"Physical property conditions and stock health are in the forefront of many people's minds. Yet the most important equipment on your farm is you and your family," she said.
"You need to take care of that."
